RuralOrganizing Statement On The Vice Presidential Debate
The following is a statement from Shawn Sebastian, Director of Organizing at RuralOrganizing:
Tim Walz grew up on a family farm in Nebraska and JD Vance grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati, and they presented contrasting rural values and contrasting futures for rural America. At RuralOrganizing.org, we have worked with rural people across the country who are putting up yard signs that say “Freedom, Choice, Democracy.” Only one of the vice presidential candidates reflected these values and the priorities of rural America.
Vance tried to dance around it, but his “concepts of a plan” are to strip pre-existing conditions protections from us, he’s spoken in favor of a national abortion ban, and wouldn’t even acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election.
Tim Walz presented a much different vision for America and we know in his plan, rural America matters. The Harris/Walz administration will protect a woman’s right to choose, expand healthcare coverage and childcare resources so rural people can make ends meet and generate wealth, and of course they actually respect that every American’s vote counts. Walz shares our views on Freedom, Choice and Democracy while Vance failed on all three counts.
The mission of RuralOrganizing.org is to rebuild a rural America that is empowered, thriving, and equitable. Follow us on Twitter @RuralOrganizing.
