Compensation for the Rural Pennsylvania Voting Rights Organizer is $58,000 – $68,000 salary with benefits. The position is temporary and will last until January 31, 2025. JOB SUMMARY
The Voting Rights Organizer reports to the Director of Organizing and is responsible for leading and implementing our voting rights work across Pennsylvania. The Voting Rights Organizer will work with internal and external stakeholders to build comprehensive and integrated community organizing campaigns, support the leadership of volunteers on the ground in rural Pennsylvania to monitor and hold accountable local Boards of Elections, and work with partners and stakeholders across the ecosystem to protect the integrity of election results.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Travel throughout rural Pennsylvania to train and work with rural volunteers to ensure the transparent and fair functioning of local Boards of Elections.
- Collaborate with other organizations in the Pennsylvania voting rights ecosystem. Develop and coordinate work plans for offline and online organizing efforts.
- Set realistic organizer goals for volunteer engagement, and coach and manage volunteers to meet and exceed organizing goals.
- Mentor volunteers and adjust campaign tactics to reflect the reality of the communities you are assigned to.
- Serve as an organizational spokesperson.
- Other duties as needed by the Organizing Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Troubleshoot and collaborate with volunteers and partners on accountability strategies to ensure the transparent and fair administration of elections.
- In collaboration with team leads, coordinate internal and external communications to promote the visibility of events and manage the production of communication materials.
- Serve as organizational spokesperson and liaison for public-facing events.
- Ensure smooth event and webinar coordination.
- Write, edit, compile, and prepare event materials and collateral: draft remarks, speaking points, and overall run-of-show guidelines.
- Ensure understanding and collaboration between all internal and external stakeholders.
- Work with the communication team to manage media inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in community organizing. Candidates with rural organizing experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Applicants must live in or be willing to move to rural Pennsylvania.
- Ability to work campaign hours including evenings and weekends, and willing to be flexible as responsibilities grow over time.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must possess a working computer/laptop, smart phone, and a valid driver’s license along with reliable access to a car.
- Superlative interpersonal skills with a conflict-resolution orientation.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- The ability to forge positive working relationships with senior staff, partners, community stakeholders, vendors, and others.
- Strong data management and technology skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and follow-up.
- The ability to effectively multi-task and demonstrate responsiveness.
- Graphic design skills and a strong eye for crisp, clean design are preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- 3 years relevant experience, organizing, non-profit, civic leadership, etc.
- Should have a track record of local problem solving and communicating.
- Bachelors degree not required.
